Codex is a textual archive.

Codex catalogs the physical sources behind the Bible — scrolls, papyri, codices, parchments, and fragments — alongside the historical versions those manuscripts produced, and the English translations that carry them today.

For each translation, Codex names the choices that translation made: which manuscripts it starts from, what philosophy it follows, and the issues scholars raise about it. Nothing is hidden in a footnote.

Descriptions draw on standard reference works in textual criticism — Metzger & Ehrman's The Text of the New Testament, Tov's Textual Criticism of the Hebrew Bible, Wegner's A Student's Guide to Textual Criticism, plus the online catalogs of the INTF, the Digital Dead Sea Scrolls, and each translation's published preface.
